Gantries in Construction
Versatile and efficient lifting solutions for modern construction projects
Gantries are essential equipment for lifting and moving heavy loads on construction sites, and play an important role in promoting safe lifting practices and avoiding injuries. At SHEARFORCE, we provide strong and lightweight steel and aluminium gantries, with the capacity to take on a wide range of construction applications and loads.
Our Solutions:
Aluminium Gantries
- Load bearing capacity: Maximum safe working load up to 3000 kg.
- Rotational qualities: Our gantries have a unique rotating design, with a base that swivels around obstructions, making it suitable for complex and confined spaces.
- Height: Adjustable height between 1.6 and 2.8 m under the beam.
- Handling: The gantry can be easily and safely handled and assembled by two operatives, with each side weighing less than 50 kg.
- Point loading: allows point loading over eight points to distribute load and reduce ground bearing pressure.

Steel Gantries
- Load bearing capacity: Safe working load up to 3000 kg.
- Rotational qualities: The gantry bases can rotate approximately 35° to navigate confined spaces.
- Height: Adjustable height from 1.6 m to 2.8 m under the beam.
- Portability: The gantry is equipped with swivel wheels for convenient movement around site.
- Transport and storage: Each side weighs just 63 kg and comes in a robust, easy-clean PVC bag with wheels for safe handling. Bespoke wooden boxes are available for transport via forklift.

Benefits Of Using Gantries In Your Construction Project
- Heavy lift capabilities: Our range of gantries have market leading load bearing capabilities, allowing the safe lifting of up to 3000 kg for both steel and aluminium gantries.
- Flexibility and portability: Our unique, patented gantry designs feature a rotating head mounted on a base that can swivel safely around obstructions. This makes our unique gantries perfect for restricted areas and confined spaces. Despite their heavy-duty capacity, the gantries themselves are remarkably light, and when not in use, they can be quickly disassembled and are easy to store.
- Efficient lifting: Using gantries in your construction project makes it easier to enforce standardised lifting procedures and best practices among your staff and subcontractors, improving worker training and hazard awareness on your site. Using gantries, workers are better able to handle heavy loads without risk of damage to equipment or to workers, and it also helps your site management team to reduce clutter on site and keep your worksite orderly, further contributing to overall safety.
- Health and safety: By reducing the need for workers to manually lift and move heavy materials, gantries mitigate the risk of physical strains, accidents, and repetitive stress injuries arising from manual handling. Using a gantry also enables greater stability and control when moving loads, which minimises the risk of dropping or mishandling materials.
- Better site organisation: Our portable gantries are adaptable to various construction applications, and are capable of operating efficiently in tight spaces where other lifting solutions might not fit. Gantries can also be rapidly set up and dismantled as required, giving you the flexibility to relocate equipment across site, and can also reduce the need for permanent scaffolding on certain tasks.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
How are gantries used in construction projects?
Gantries are used in construction projects to move and support heavy loads horizontally and vertically, e.g. to lift materials, equipment, and components to different heights or locations around the workspace. Gantries often provide greater versatility, at a lower cost, than larger lifting equipment or cranes.
What are the different types of gantries available in construction projects?
Various types of gantries are used in construction projects, such as adjustable height gantries, fixed gantries, portable gantries, and track mounted gantries. The type you need will depend on your project requirements. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss your needs.
What gantry size and capacity do I need for my construction project?
The type of gantry you need depends on the weight and dimensions of the loads to be lifted, as well as the height and reach required. Any space constraints at site may also affect your choice – get in touch with one of our experienced engineers to help guide you to the best option.
What safety precautions should I take when using gantries in construction?
Regular maintenance and inspections are essential for all construction equipment, including gantries. Your equipment should be serviced and maintained in compliance with LOLER, and all operatives be properly trained on how to secure loads correctly, adhere to weight limits, and follow the relevant health and safety guidelines and regulations.
